If he were to go to a hospital, in the hoax version, he would do so in a flippant way that indicates that he wasn't really impacted by the disease. "My handlers are scared but I'm not. I'm putting on a show for them." That kinda energy.

Yes if it were somehow necessary to go to the hospital to "sell the hoax" but the point of the hoax were the virus is very mild and Trump is feeling just fine, he would have made a point of walking himself into the hospital and waving to the cameras as he did so

It's so bizarre because Trump is kinda a terrible con artist. His big move is telling a ridiculously brazen lie and hoping no one calls him on it, and his power means that few do call him on it. It's usually incredibly obvious when he lies.

The vast majority of his lies have been incredibly obvious and easy to prove lies, yes

Oh jeez, I just remembered that core to this situation is that Trump caught the disease in likely association with a super spreader event that infected dozens of Republicans. Which, that is a lot of moving pieces for a hoax.

It is a lot of moving pieces. But so was the 1960s CIA which succeeded in any number of them. How many are sick? How many are going to make a miraculous recovery? It's something that needs attention, actually. So, I disagree that it's worthless to think about. Watch the odds.

So, you think dozens of people, some of whom would be massively impacted by having to fake a virus, are doing this to... what? Make people think Coronavirus is marginally less dangerous than it is? Except in the process of the hoax they're making it look way more dangerous?

All I can say to that is.... face masks. It's the ONE thing that could have prevented this from getting out of control, if anything did. Trump did lie about a world of things. But I was in fact overreacting and not really thinking about the bigger picture.

Face masks are a perfect example of the way Trump lies. He doesn't create some wild web with a million points of dependency. He just says, "Masks are stupid, don't wear them," and that's enough for his base.

I actually think one of the funniest fucking things about Trump -- something I would genuinely find lovable if he were a completely fictional character -- is how he tries to quote these elaborate conspiracy theories his fans make up but he can't even remember them accurately

Like there was an actual real detailed thing he was trying to reference when he was talking about "injecting... bleach into the lungs... almost like a cleaning" but he didn't bother to pay attention to it and he said it all wrong and turned it into a meme He does it all the time

One of his fans consumed aquarium cleaner when he started about Hydroxychloroquine and killed themselves with it... Also that drug is an immunosuppressant so who knows how many others contracted illnesses. He's always been unhinged, but no one who could do anything will stop him
