We call it 'leveling yourself.' The trick was to figure out what level they were on, and go one deeper...but if you go more than one deeper, you outplay yourself.

It's a legit thing against strong players to think about: What do they think I think they think that I'm thinking? ...and then playing based on that. But doing that against a novice is leveling yourself: they're barely able to think about their OWN hand let alone yours...
