Whether being Donald Trump's personal doctor (or lawyer or bodyguard or chef or whatever) is actually "prestigious" nowadays is a complicated question I think

I spent a lot of years volunteering in elementary schools, and was president of a PTO. I met a lot of wonderful, devoted teachers, more than a few mediocre ones, and a few who should never have even been around children, like an alcoholic PE teacher with anger issues.

I don't know about the US system, but until last year France used a numerus clausus system that limited the number of people who were allowed to finish medical school…

On the plus side, we could expect that every doctor was at least on the theoretical side competent enough for the job. On the other hand, we've suffered from a shortage of doctors because the numerous clausus was kept too low.
