It's why @sadydoyle wrote about how even though the Hulk is literally a giant cliche about toxic masculinity, "I'm always angry" and "Puny god" can hit as such powerful and resonant lines from a feminist POV

Picking up a goddamn baseball bat and smashing your super special magic computer with the special algorithm in it that tells all of us what to do into little pieces Reminding us all that, in the end, it's just a goddamn plastic box

The smug billionaire prick realizing that all the money that exists as 1s and 0s in a faraway computer and all the complex knowledge of law and finance he's spent a lifetime accumulating means jack shit when all the little people start physically rushing the door to his mansion

@RuffleJax talked about how the Bay Area techbro rationalist community is in love with Mage: the Ascension and their private Discord server is named "Doissetep" after the Chantry of the Order of Hermes And wow that analogy just makes me appreciate Hunter: the Reckoning so much3 replies 1 retweet 16 likes -

Everyone who hated Hunter tended to be like "Hey it only makes sense for the Vampires, what about the Werewolves and Mages? Hunters hate them and they're good guys" They are not good guys Are you kidding me The Traditions get the wall *first*, *before* the Camarilla

At least Vampires, like, biologically need to drink blood and the fact it's very hard to do so consensually is why they created their whole evil mind control thing It's not a moral excuse at all but it's an evolutionary explanation Mages just think they're smarter than everyone

honestly i'm kinda curious as to like, what it is the mages do exactly that upset you? The general impression I got, as someone who has never played, is that the mages are basically just off doing their own thing...

Mages don't have to be played as assholes and they blew up the setting in Revised to make being an asshole Mage a lot harder but it's just that in the meta context we're talking about they come off a LOT like the "fans are slans" stereotype

"Slan" was an old school science fiction story about genetic mutants who were superintelligent and destined to replace normal humans, "fans are slans" was a notorious in-joke from the era about the whole idea of "nerd supremacy"

i kinda get what you mean i guess i never saw it that way because , from what i read the main interaction with normal folks is just hiding from them with most of the opposition coming from other mages, so i never really saw them as a threat to normal people
