Yeah okay but Vampires are rapists, let's be real Your character personally may not be but that's the archetype you're playing one way or another, it's deliberately titillating because it's playing with the cultural fear of violation

A: ok but that doesn't change my observetion about the overlap, if anything it intensifies it considerably further. B: that's certainly the tack WoD took with it... Which is incredibly gross since it turns into "once metaphorically violated your only moral choice is death."

Which if we allow for vampires in the context of WoD to symbolize - let's just fucking say it - the sexual hedonism of non-cishet-vanilla spaces as viewed by conservatives... Fuck does it get ugly. "Your child got seduced/drawn into the Vampire Life by the not!Jews & must die."

Imo the territory WoD (and Blade, and that whole 90s-00s genre of Urban Industrial Punk/Club vampires) enters with its vampires is gross and queephobic-slash-antisemitic to its core. Especially once you start viewing anyone other than the vamps as protagonists.

I mean hell personally I've always been shocked the primary monsters of WoD weren't things like werewolves, but WoD werewolves are just a mess (and as I understand it had some uncomfortable overlap with some vaguely fash-adjacent symbolism in oWoD?)

I mean look you kind of have to do something with that, the Nazis literally created a thing called Operation Werewolf

I know I'm just saying it's bizarre that WoD seemed to take as a moral statement "you know who are the ultimate evil? It's not the Nazi murderfurries who wanna go anprim, it's the leather clad punks, misfits & weirdos who drink blood and corrupt the sexual morals of our kids."

That's a hell of an oversimplification. The leather clad punks where usually portrayed as the protagonists in the gothic punk world (Of Darkness). Not always, never universally, but usually.

AIUI the titles never really overlapped that much because they never bothered balancing the power levels, werewolves are so obviously much more powerful than vampires [and mages vs both of them] that you can't reasonably run them fighting against each other on equal terms.

Yeah *true* crossover in oWoD games was really hard to do, and Hunter, the game that would seem to most depend on it, didn't actually encourage you to literally do this The Storyteller's Guide gives you heavily nerfed and simplified versions to use as NPCs

Even then the idea of even a very powerful Hunter with a lot of equipment and silver bullets and shit successfully killing a Garou is really hard to believe unless the Werewolf is, like, stupid Luckily it turns out quite a few Werewolves ARE very stupid

Being stupid is indeed sort of core to being a werewolf :P
