Yes It was a great detail for the author of that fic to throw in a quick aside from Ginny about "Cousin Milton and his horrible daughter" as a reference to this dropped subplot The idea that for someone in this situation the other person is the unreasonable one

They have no fucking idea what Cousin Milton (or whatever his canon name would be)'s life was like or how much shit he ate before he got that cushy job as a stockbroker They didn't care, they never asked And they think he's the asshole for holding a grudge

It's always like that "Why are you still so sore over what happened decades ago? I know it wasn't totally fair to you, but we just did what anyone would do in that situation You can't just expect the whole family to set everything aside to cater to your needs"

Being the Inconvenient Relative everyone just abandoned and thought was a kind of dirty family secret Until twenty years later and Times Have Changed and you've made some money now and people need something from you and all of a sudden you gotta pretend it's okay

I greatly enjoy headcanoning Mafalda Weasley as being technically a Muggleborn (because a Squib who cuts off their family essentially just is a Muggle), but one raised with a deep resentment of the Wizarding World and its hierarchy

And if they're lucky she's only coming to Hogwarts to learn just enough to make her FYGM money and then abandon them forever And if they're unlucky she's there to learn enough to blow the whole thing up

Wizard Killmonger is absolutely a character who should exist in Harry Potter and is such a cooler idea for a successor to Voldemort (basically Voldemort's mirror image) than what either Cursed Child or Fantastic Beasts came up with

I had a vague idea for a political intrigue fic where the UK government got hold of some anti-magic tech created by a squib science team who used stuff like cold iron implants to block magic.

It starts with the Goblins The Goblins canonically have antimagic metal They only use it for medieval weapons like the Sword of Godric Gryffindor because it's really hard for them to learn Muggle tech because of the Statute of Secrecy

Get a sufficiently angry Squib and/or awakened Muggle to liaise between Muggle arms manufacturers and a sufficiently angry group of Goblins and the Wizarding World is completely fucked It's like the plot of Zelazny's The Guns of Avalon

It also had someone with an artifical arm built with a load of magic wand cores and tech that let them use magic.

Cool! I can totally see the Statute of Secrecy was about preventing Muggles from getting their hands on exactly this kind of assistive tech.
