literally this is a movie that mashes up retro top gun imagery with the rah rah war on terror and then the whole first two thirds of the film are revealed to be pro-kree propoganda, carol has been lied to by the military about EVERYTHING from her past to the nature of the skrulls

If someone literally wanted to follow Carol's journey as presented in the movie, they would punch their NCO, accept a court-martial, and go off to be a hero on their own without being part of anyone's goddamn army That's extremely simple and obvious and explicit in the film
-
I really feel like this is the kind of thing people deliberately have to reach to *not* get because of the Girl Power thing Like it's *extra important* we critique anything that looks liberal feminist *extra hard*

Yes They could not make a movie where the US military were the actual bad guys, where the ending is Carol incinerating a bunch of actual US troops and blowing up Washington DC They would not have been allowed Congrats on spotting the oppression inherent to the system etc

we are explicitly supposed to draw direct parallels between the jingoism and propoganda of the kree military and the US military, like it's not even a subtle plot point
-
It's the least subtle plot point possible! Like the idea that they're meant to be Menacing Foreigners is so damn headass -- they're straight up presented as your Mass Effect squad in the first half of the movie, they're coded as the good guys in every possible way
