I am fine with saying that what a movie's plot and dialogue and themes say is often very different from what a movie's moment-to-moment imagery says, and that since cinema is a visual medium the latter is often more important But that doesn't negate the former

Captain Marvel was made within certain constraints it pretty much had to be made under in order to be an MCU blockbuster movie in the 21st century, and under those constraints it's unusually good for an MCU movie (like Black Panther, and unlike, imo, the Iron Man films)
