Like look everyone brings up that final scene with Jude Law trying to berate her and get his hooks back into her and she just shuts him up by blasting him And they say it's about sexism, and patriarchy, and mansplaining And sure, it's about those things, but not ONLY those

And even though Ditko's politics were shit, I still think he did have a point there The military teaches you that even to *have a sense of right and wrong* is something they need to beat into you That civilians are all selfish bastards, the military teaches you honor and duty
-
Only through the experience of war can you learn true courage, true loyalty and friendship, true sacrifice and altruism, etc. etc. It's all BS As an institution and as individuals they're as selfish motherfuckers as anybody else

I recall an issue arising when Spider-Man swung past protestors w/ his fist up. Ditko intended Spidey to be angry w/ the protestors, but Stan Lee read that as him supporting the protestors. Due to the Marvel Method, the text reflected Stan's read of it.

Which is funny, considering how helping others is portrayed in a lot of Rand's work.
-
This is kind of a flattened view of Rand I hate to sound like I'm defending her but look, in The Fountainhead she has Howard Roark tell Gail Wynand "If this boat were sinking I would willingly drown to save your life without a moment's hesitation"

This aspect, and the "Marvel Method" led to one of my favorite early Marvel anecdotes. The Marvel Method was their way to streamline comic production. A basic script would be decided on. The Artist would draw the pages. Afterward the writer would decide dialogue and whatnot
-
A Spider-man comic had a group of protesters mentioned in the basic script, to establish them for a later plot point. Ditko draws the standard Spider-man opening, Spidey swinging around the city, thinking to himself. Ditko draws spider-man gesturing at the protesters annoyed.
