My advice to people is never to join the military, even when the country doesn't have a proudly white nationalist Commander-in-Chief, even if it's for a POG MOS, even if the nation's not at war, even if it's just to be a weekend warrior It will perpetually socially unmoor you

it doesn't really work if the military she hates is the alien one she got kidnapped into, we need one that legit openly hates the non metaphorical US military

I always thought Disney was pulling a con with that one, using a fictional military as stand in for the real one so they can criticize both impunity.

Like look everyone brings up that final scene with Jude Law trying to berate her and get his hooks back into her and she just shuts him up by blasting him And they say it's about sexism, and patriarchy, and mansplaining And sure, it's about those things, but not ONLY those

Like of course these are gendered roles Carol and Yon-Rogg are playing here but they're not *only* gendered It's not just patriarchy, it's *paternalism* It's how men treat women, but also how elders treat juniors, parents treat children, the elite treat the poor

Yeah, I was thinking about that movie the other day, and it’s a really well done critique of heroic narratives states tell about themselves, and an explicit critique of Imperialism... ...Just not, you know, US Imperialism. Kind of a have your cake and eat it too situation.
