I would totally, totally buy it that even as a little girl, JKR never actually read any books and that Harry Potter is actually a result of Rowling having watched the 1986 HBO movie adaptation of THE WORST WITCH when she was in her early twentieshttps://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1311770268822462464 …

A demonstration of literary skill better than Rowling is literally when Toby Fox wrote a gag where Asriel Dreamurr from Undertale was implied to be the baddie because their name is an anagram of Serial Murderer

Right, it's both an anagram AND his first name is the Angel of Death from the Bible AND his last name sounds like "dreamer" I mean it's still pretty clunky but it is in fact better than the Tom Riddle/Voldemort reveal

Oh and when you find out about it it clicks that his name is just a portmanteau of Toriel and Asgore's names (because Asgore, his dad, is established to be bad at thinking up new names) That was pretty good

The thing is "Tom Riddle" actually is a pretty cool ominous sounding name but the degree to which the anagram was forced with "Marvolo" just kind of ruins it I mean the silliness of the name "Lord Voldemort" also ruins it tbh

Alan Moore's reference to Harry Potter in LXG, where we only slowly realize that yes he's referencing Harry Potter when the Aleister Crowley guy tells the lady his first name is Tom and his last name "will have to remain a mystery" That was cooler than the original book
