Like, it's telling that the worst thing about the Death Eater regime in Deathly Hallows is *falsely accusing Muggleborn wizards of just being Muggles* "Who did you steal that wand from? Whose magic have you been leeching off of?" etc

It really does end up being a struggle between a "liberal" elite who preach benign neglect and an openly fascist elite who preach unrestrained sadism But they're all fucking dyes-in-the-wool elitists

The genuinely democratic, populist point of view only comes up at all to get mocked and abused, making Hermione into an out-of-touch Soapbox Sadie with SPEW Muggle populists show up as cartoon fundie villains in Fantastic Beasts (the witch hunters)

I'm really wondering about the idea of the PM just going along with things the pm is supposed to be John major and Maggie had just been ousted so she was in office for Voldemort etc. I can't imagine either of them not working on counter measures and a project to hunt wizards.

Also, constitutional convention (as you probably know, being on Lake Erie): ministers are commissioned by the monarch. So either: 1) the Queen doesn't know, in which case the Ministry of Magic is illegitimate and has been for a very long time
-
2) the Queen does know and is a Muggle, in which case she's effectively at the mercy of the existing magical oligarchy; there is no possible way she could make an informed choice regarding who to commission 3) the Queen does know and is a witch, which is EVEN WORSE
