And look Lengthy monologuing isn't inherently a bad thing, there are writers who build their whole style around making that concept work But the *massive* character filibusters she has people break into as soon as she's allowed are the kind of thing editors mock all the time

Fuck's sake her new book Troubled Blood ends with the murderer giving a THIRTY-PAGE-LONG CONFESSION of all their crimes Just sitting there answering all the detective's questions in exhaustive detail to make sure all the plot holes are patched up

I mean if you watched Crimes of Grindelwal, Leta Lestrange literally spends like 15 minutes at the end of the film telling us the plot of the film and all the extra bits they couldn't fit in...

"Guys it's fine, I can explain! Basically, her dad bought her mum from another slave-owner and then sexually assaulted her. See, it all makes sense now!"

She acts like it's this big shocking reveal for us to find out Credence wasn't really Corvus Lestrange after all But we only even found out he was supposed to be Corvus Lestrange like half an hour ago and it was never clear why that was supposed to be any kind of big deal

Like leaving us on this extremely unsteady footing with all this bait-and-switching via obnoxiously long monologues and flashbacks -- "I have no idea who the fuck Credence's parents are supposed to be or why that even matters"

And it's all to set up ending the movie on the stupidest, most ass-pulled reveal of all Like scientifically the worst possible way to end the movie An actual worse version of "Rey... you're a Palpatine"

I genuinely feel bad for her hardcore fans because that reveal just slaps them so hard in the face "You know all that sad backstory with Dumbledore and Grindelwald and Dumbledore's tragic dead sister Ariana? Well it's wrong There was this baby brother the whole time too"

I love the fanfic explanation that Credence Barebone actually IS Ariana Dumbledore, somehow reincarnated, and "Aurelius Dumbledore" was his chosen name before he died because he was a closeted trans man

Like it's a great way to troll JKR but it's also legitimately the only way to salvage this plot twist that isn't insulting
