She wasn't, though. She was being paid many-million dollar advances to write entertaining books. If she wants to claim Latin is a corrupted form of the Sorceror's Tongue, similar in some ways but not identical, then she's not a mile from Tolkien's handling of Elvish.

And the novel, while it does not particularly portray these people in a favorable light -- he exposes all their foibles and shortcomings in a cruelly accurate way that makes them look like assholes -- does portray this as understandable grounds for murder

I haven't read The Silkwork and I'm not gonna but I read a summary when I first started to hear about its author being terrible and the whole premise seemed so baffling to me. Makes more sense if it's her unconscious mind telling on her, I guess.
