Well that's what I meant by "lose control of the trademark" When Google fought the case over "googling" their whole argument was when people say "googling" they literally mean the specific website, Google, and that using the term to mean looking something up on Bing is incorrect

Actual genericization would mean that you could literally call a search engine "a google" Bing could change its name to Microsoft Google™ Just like if Photoshop were genericized then you could have Microsoft Photoshop™, GIMP could just rename itself GNU Photoshop, etc
