Yeah, so the fuck what That doesn't make using an ACTUAL ENGLISH WORD to mean the OPPOSITE OF WHAT THAT WORD MEANS somehow not a mistake Maybe her knowing the French word is the *explanation* for the mistake, it doesn't make her somehow secretly correct

Also, "Pensieve" isn't French, it's just a pun in English ("pensive" + "sieve") The French translation of Harry Potter doesn't use it, because the word "sieve" isn't what it's called in French (it's called a "tamis") The translator renders it "Pensine"

I thought so too, until the films had Gambon pronounce it the French way.

Actually it does, for a lot of English words ending in “ation”. Say them in a French accent and that is literally the French translation.

The word "sieve" does not have a "French pronunciation" because it is not a French word

Many French words end in “ive”, pronounced with a long i. Pensive isn’t one of them and yes, sieve is Germanic in origin (modern German: Sieb). It’s called wordplay.

Arthur said it was a pun that only works in English. Wordplay. Back up thread when you were still arguing it was French.

It's literally something THEY CHANGED IN THE FRENCH TRANSLATION, because the pun DOESN'T WORK IN FRENCH because in French they don't say the word "sieve" Jesus Christ

Man, it's like every day you're out here living the "Brawndo's got what plants crave" scene on purpose

I know this is exactly the sort of thing someone like Kim would say to try to own me to their own followers, but I'm gonna say it anyway because it's true I do in fact engage with accounts like Kim because it's a cheap and easy way to feel better about my own knowledge level

I do in fact feel like an ignorant fraud a lot of the time and then seeing someone like this being just so irrepressibly smug while knowing so little perks me right back up
