This ridiculous defensive rant is actually helping radicalize me against the whole idea of liberation-through-representation Like the simple fact that JK Rowling is a woman, and JK Rowling is successful, means JK Rowling's success is all women's success

No matter how many obviously stupid or ignorant or insensitive things she does, no matter how many other people she steps on, no matter how little she actually does in any material sense to uplift other women writers or other writers at all You Go Jo, Girl Power

The Baroness Thatcher, of course, was well into her political retirement by the time JK Rowling got famous, but Rowling is certainly very good friends and allies with a different Tory member of the House of Lords, the Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne

An outspoken opponent of marriage equality, abortion rights and the welfare state and proponent of the Iraq War JKR co-founding Lumos with her has, in fact, done a *lot* to rehabilitate her reputation with her Blairite Labour fanbase But I guess that's neither here nor there

WFT? I know going to Keble College gives me some small element of information bias in terms of judging variables & state, but working with someone to save orphans is bad bc...something/something/something not related? Also Obama/Biden/Clinton had Thatcher's views on gay marriage.

Emma Nicholson didn't have those anti-marriage equality views IN THE PAST she has them RIGHT NOWhttps://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/06/10/baroness-emma-nicholson-same-sex-marriage-equality-tweets-twitter-homophobia/ …

What does that have to do with her helping orphans? Your entire JK Rowling argument now comes down to the fact that she knows someone who doesn't believe in gay marriage. I've got news for you...you'll have friends like that too. Even if you don't know it.

I do not knowingly have any friends who are anti-marriage equality, and if I became aware of such a friend they would quickly cease to be my friend And even if I did, there is a big difference between being someone's friend and co-founding an organization with them

You do understand there's no such thing as a purely altruistic charity, and all celebrity charities serve the secondary function (or, hell, primary function) of providing PR for the people associated with them? Maybe I'm cynical but I thought everyone older than 12 knew that

Altruistic charity is paying your fair share of taxes.

Yes I do know there is a varying element of that with people who are successful. But trying to end the orphan tourism industry & desperately trying to get orphans back to their families is a good. Ur coming across as someone who would sooner see those people suffer...
