Would you give me props if I didn't speak English but I decided to write a white American character named Anxiety

Anyway Cho Chang is *not* a melancholy character when she's introduced, she has pretty much no characterization at all other than being the unattainable hot girl until after Cedric dies in Order of the Phoenix

The Chinese transition of Harry Potter does not go with the "melancholy" thing because it's ridiculous They try to salvage it by making her name Zhang Qiu (張秋) which is a... very unusual name (it's two surnames, like being named "Smith Johnson") but better than nothing

Also while we're flexing about research here the name "Delacour" means "of the court", "of the heart" would be "du coeur"

Yeah this one is embarrassing for Izze, not JK Rowling JKR obviously meant the name to mean a "flower of the court", which is a perfectly cromulent old-timey way to describe a widely admired aristocratic lady

Fine let's say it means flower of the court. It's still the same thing and the same point that the name is a literal translation like everything thing else in her books and many other books and movies.

Right. But our point now is that you were bragging about how fluent in french you were but you proudly and confidently spoke about a completely different phrase. Also, these literal translations do not in anyway make up for the racist nonsense earlier in this thread or cho chang

Okay but she's obviously not fluent in Chinese, or Malagasy -- hell she doesn't even remember what the Malagasy language is actually called
