This is what I mean when I say she's not just a bad writer and a bigoted person but profoundly lazy Her worldview is shaped by this amazingly self-confident willingness to just glance at something once or twice and be sure she understands as much of it as she needs to

Was there ever any need to go back and look up what "Alohomora" meant? Nah Was there ever any worry that someone from the culture she was shamelessly lifting from might be offended or take issue with her? Nah Just plow on ahead, Jo, let your imagination be your compass

Lol no it doesn't There's no way JKR picked the name for this reason, there's no way she did any research at all, if she did someone would have told her it's not a fucking name

Anyway Cho Chang is *not* a melancholy character when she's introduced, she has pretty much no characterization at all other than being the unattainable hot girl until after Cedric dies in Order of the Phoenix

The Chinese transition of Harry Potter does not go with the "melancholy" thing because it's ridiculous They try to salvage it by making her name Zhang Qiu (張秋) which is a... very unusual name (it's two surnames, like being named "Smith Johnson") but better than nothing

Also while we're flexing about research here the name "Delacour" means "of the court", "of the heart" would be "du coeur"

Wow you can use Google translate. I took French i know what it means also JKR is fluent in French and has a degree in languages so I think she knows what shes doing. Did you ask her any of this or are you assuming???

No, you don't, you said "Delacour" means "of the heart" and it means "of the court" Why are you trying to say "I took French" in response to being wrong like that makes you look better and not worse
