As @jk_rowling knows well, spells need bad Latin. Otherwise general use of Latin would be dangerous.https://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1310777923981303808 …

Replying to @DrPJWilliams @jk_rowling
Come on dude this is a stupid argument It doesn't even make sense because "Imperio!" actually is a word (the dative or ablative case of "imperium", "To the empire!" or "From the empire!") that you would be just as likely to say by accident if you were actually speaking Latin

If anything getting the grammar right in Latin would be a great way to *prevent* the whole "accidentally activating Alexa" kind of scenario Precisely because Latin is a highly inflected language

In Latin you wouldn't accidentally say "impero" in the middle of a sentence like "Wouldn't it be terrible if someone tried to command me to jump out the window" "Impero" specifically means "*I* command" and would only be used in that context

But of course even just sitting here talking about this we're both probably putting in 10x the amount of thought into it JK Rowling did when she wrote the books I mean you know "stupefy" and "enervate" are English words right
