It is vaguely appropriate for a mind control spell, sure, in the sense that any word derived from the Latin word "imperium" would be, but grammatically it's just an awkward mistake

it's not much discussed in the book but "imperio!" is actually a version of the spell that only works if you're a citizen of an imperial power; everyone else has to get by with the more obscure-and-even-more-forbidden "impero!"

Fair enough I don’t know much about Latin so I won’t doubt you - I suppose most who enjoy the books won’t know much Latin anyway so don’t mind it. Or if they do, they look past it.
