I think that's the honest approach really: that those of us who are white writers just need to recognize that we're never going to be above criticism and just accept that when we screw up people have the right to call us out on it. Which goes doubly true for white male writers.

Trying to proof ourselves against criticism from marginalized groups *looks* good and *feels* like the right thing but it ultimately just defensiveness on our part to avoid feeling like the bad guy. Responsibility doesn't mean asking someone to tell you you'll never fuck up.
