Oh, 100%. It's just more shoddy worldbuilding that makes less sense the more you look at it. Why is Bad Latin the Language of Spells? If it's simply that Bad Latin is the UI for European wands, then why would an """African""" word be used as their normal unlocking spell?

I like the reason the protag of Dresden Files uses faux Latin for his spells. It's a deliberate FU to the Wizard Council, since they conduct all their business in Latin and wizards need to do spells based on a language they don't understand so they don't short out their brains
