Yes, I do It's why I also don't give much credence to people who log on every day demanding that I condemn the abuse against Donald Trump Do you?

That middle paragraph’s been my point. The list of injustices in the world is long. It’s a good thing people have different order of priorities so different injustices get addressed. Your idea of everyone working down one list (or you will be told off) is absurd. And Puritan.

No, the point is that the abuse JKR is facing is part of the general background noise of being famous and controversial online and isn't particularly unjust at all Making a cause out of condemning it is like raising money to pay a billionaire's taxes

So online abuse is as normal, as to be expected, as taxes? You are welcome to seek to normalize it if you wish. I think it is a bad thing, and saying so is ok And that if saying it is a bad thing results in a stern letter from your accountant, you have a Puritan accountant.

Treating it as normal for everyone else until it happens to your special celebrity friend who, alone among mortals, apparently doesn't deserve it IS normalizing it

Like JFC these people are obviously talking out of both sides of their mouth here They say that even people who disagree with JKR should "condemn the abuse" because it's wrong when it happens to "anyone" But THEY certainly don't condemn it when it happens to "anyone"

You want me to take you seriously and consider signing your stupid open letter condemning abuse of JK Rowling? How about you sign an open letter condemning the abuse against Owen Jones You know, the guy who was actually physically assaulted for his political views

Arthur, when did I ask you to sign that open letter? Have you made up yet another thing? This is becoming quite the habit of yours. (I once tweeted Owen to say how terrible it was he was assaulted btw, true story)

I mean, you don't even try to dispute the fact that these people are only writing and signing these open letters for one side, even when the abuse for others gets to the extent that it becomes physical.

My whole schtick in this thread has been that the order that people put on issues that affect them is rightly an individual thing, because that leads to a diverse range of issues being tackled. Arthur’s idea of one central list we must work down from is nuts. And Puritan.

No, the point is that the abuse directed at JK Rowling isn't really an "issue" at all, as compared to JK Rowling's public support for transphobia, which has had a far more deleterious impact on far more people

‘as compared to’ So still looking at where things are on the central list. Would have been quicker for you to type ‘yes, you have summarized my point correctly’.
