Fury Road tangent: People mistook Max's "You know, hope is a mistake" bit (and the unspoken thesis around it) as being protagonism/refusing-the-call stuff. The reality is (as the reviews showed) no one knows who the protag was, and Max was Also Right, not just Only Right.

Presumably the fact that some but not all people experience hope (emotion, internal) as inextricable from “the fight for a better future” (action, externally noticeable) is why this sort of thing gets heated fast, huh
