I know some speculation was that he'd resign and after Pence is sworn in, would pardon him. Yet if NY is really intending to go after him, there are state charges he can't be pardoned for, apparently. IIRC, it has been at least threatened they'll prosecute him if he loses.

Also, being pardoned does nothing for the almost half a billion dollars he owes in debt to God knows who.

It's not just a "prosecute for crimes," it's that he's *in debt* and has consistently shown an inability to figure out ways to get himself out. Being President is, horribly, a reprieve from this.
