I wanna know how many coffeeshop AUs there are where everyone is in the same time period and Ellie and Sarah become a couple and Joel is just super awkward I hate coffee shop AUs and yet that one is adorablehttps://twitter.com/icycroft/status/1310262788296773636 …

I just love Sarah Miller fanfic/headcanon stuff. She's the shortest time playable character of any game PC I can think of, has no known special abilities, and is barely discussed and yet the entire plot depends on her

Like not just 1, but 2 as well. Sarah's life - not her death, but her life - are what lead us to a world where Ellie is alive, Lev is alive, and Abby is alive. I don't think Sarah gets "fridged"-I've said that in the past but I truly think the quality of character transcends that

You don't just get this generic "look at the middle class white man with a family, what a shame something is obviously about to happen to them", you get a really clear picture *from Sarah's perspective* that she loves her dad, that Joel is a good dad at a fundamental level

Which is how even though it's a bog standard cliche, his bonding with Ellie holds up, feels real, you believe in it. Because you know Joel has that in him, you know that the real Joel is the guy we first met *as Sarah*

Yeah. It makes the father Ellie/Joel dynamic work. Because it was the world that turned Joel into a monster, that turned everyone into monsters.

Side note: I thought it was weird on Troy Baker's podcast where he had Druckmann on that he (Baker) said he thought the first big clue Joel had become a monster was when he admits in Pittsburgh he's ambushed people. Did he... forget hunting the dude down over guns?

There's also a huuuuuge difference between "mutual violence in a criminal underbelly" and "actively preying upon people with ambushes."
