Barney Frank "came out" as an atheist after he retired, decades after he came out as gay There was an article where a guy from the Secular Coalition of America said there were at least 20 members of Congress who'd told him they didn't believe in God but couldn't say so publicly

It also helps that the moment you move the conversation from "non-Christian" to "atheist" the left and liberals alike immediately drift from "That's horrible!" to "Well, atheists are pretty bad."

I've ranted about this a lot but I think a lot of people have this idea that like, atheism must inherently be a neutral position, and that someone's atheism must not influence anything else in their life.

Not even just "non-Christian" but "non-these-specific-types-of-Christian". Mainline Protestants (and indeed even Catholics and evangelicals who don't feel the need to legislate their religious beliefs) are being included too...
