TERFs are quite literally what the UK has instead of the Religious Right, and they are in some ways more dangerous precisely because as a social identity they blend in so much better with "respectable liberals" in media and academia etc.

Absolutely, there's two transphobic cliques in the UK. The first is the Posie Parker troupe, old school homophobes. The second is the academic transphobia community, and the venn diagram between them and the UK skeptic community is practically a circle.

But I also don't think skepticism is to blame. The same skeptics that are jumping on board transphobia now, rejected identical faulty reasoning during the elevatorgate controversy.

Absolutely yes. It empowered so many of my peers (am 38) to consider themselves clever, and it repeatedly taught them that empathy was for the weak.

Yep, that sounds just like him. Proud of being oh-so-rational, too. While completely ignoring that his transphobia is rooted in irrational fear of something he doesn't understand because it doesn't relate to his life experience - which, of course, is the only valid one.
