Humans as they were truly meant to be -- with the Messengers carefully obscuring this fact, nerfing their powers (the Second Sight, the Hunter Edges) so they think they're only there to fight the other monsters The second coming of the Solar Exalted

And so Lucifer is obsessed with the idea that if one of the Imbued (the "Bright Shiners") makes the fully informed and willful decision to commit to his cause, to be a vessel for Lucifer himself, he will be the most powerful human to ever live, the Antichrist

But, of course, the OG Christ was apparently put on Earth to cut off this possibility Lucifer's bitterness and rage that Christianity (along with the other major religions) was put on Earth by mysterious forces beyond his control to stymie and frustrate him Propaganda

He puts the Hunter signature character through his Last Temptation and rages out at him because they both fully know the tropes that they're playing into and Lucifer is losing his mind that the guy refuses to just change his framing

Of COURSE "all the religions are here to fuck with Lucifer, it's just Christianity is MORE true." God I hate how much default Christendom ends up pissing on Judaism

Well, except that this Hunter's Christian upbringing, if you buy Lucifer's story, is what kills the very last hope for the world's survival

God45 ends up becoming an Independent Extremist, one of the three Extremist paths for a Hunter (when you "unlock your full potential") He's bound neither to the Messengers nor to one of the Demons but to his own personal code he made up in his own head

So he's unavailable for Lucifer In game mechanic terms Lucifer confronts his protege at the moment he puts his fifth dot into his primary Virtue (Vision, in this case) and has to decide what kind of Extremist he's going to be

(That said, Waywards are a Vision Creed, all Waywards have Vision as their primary Virtue whether or not they're Extremists, and there's this really disturbing undertone that becoming a genocidal megalomaniac is the natural result of "seeing the world clearly")

I can never decide whether I have more Wayward energy or more Hermit energy but I'm definitely one of the more tweaked Creeds

Waywards were the result of the Messengers giving their first attempt at a Vision Creed too much autonomy and Hermits are the result of giving them too little (blowing out their brains and making them into half-functional puppets of the Messengers' prophetic visions)
