Okay so I don't really agree with the people who say "rain on your wedding day" is too common and likely an occurrence to be "ironic" the way Alanis says it is in "Ironic" But, like, this is a FIFTY PERCENT CHANCE people are throwing tantrums over https://twitter.com/tequliashots/status/1308259561904586754 …

If you know you're going to lose your shit and throw a tantrum if the coin comes up tails, and have to live with the results of that coin flip for at least 18 years, maybe just don't flip the coin

God and this is why I genuinely believe the hot take that so many "normal" cishet people shouldn't be parents I still remember Bill Simmons earnestly saying that it was completely natural and normal for every father to feel a pang of disappointment when a daughter is born

"I love my daughter to bits I swear but when my son was born a part of me was like, 'Yes, finally, the teams are even'" Good FUCKING Lord

And the cisheteronormativity comes as a natural result, obviously If that's how it works then holy shit God forbid his wife die in a car accident ever The daughter would be outnumbered, on a team of one

This was the argument people seriously used against gay marriage -- "Would you be comfortable having a little daughter raised in a household of ONLY MEN?" -- and it says extremely dark things about how they think "normal" motherhood and fatherhood are supposed to work

And, yes, this is making the problematic assumption that everyone in this scenario is cis and all the assigned genders are accurate It's ALREADY fucked up before you have to have the conversation with a parent like this that a daughter is really a son

yeah these sort of ppl probably will not react well when you tell them: don't worry, who knows, maybe this human assigned female at birth IS in fact a boy. argh

I remember the sheer bile that got poured onto *me* once 4 finding it incredibly fascinating & "cool" when I shared a report on that canadian couple who refused 2 tell anybody the gender of their child. Anybody including preschool & such things (I wonder how that went longterm)

I'm still pissed off that Grimes clearly was trying to do this and then Elon Musk just told everyone the baby was a boy anyway because I guess he thought she was being dumb

it seems most men are oddly overinvested in the gender of their sons, I mean in the USA "wanting your son to look you yourself" is a legitimate motivation for getting a court to allow you to maim him :/ (that case wasn't even one where there was a religious component)
