Also, in a majority of cases, surrogates are employed by cishet couples In many of these cases the wife is able to produce ova but unable to conceive, and is therefore the egg donor for the pregnancy So the child does not have, by your definition, a single "real mother"

I feel like the reactionaries on this issue focus on gay men not just because they're homophobes (though that's the main reason) but because this blows up their whole philosophical objection

Like if I took the child away from the woman they're genetically related to and gave them to the one whose uterus they gestated in I'm equally "taking them away from their mother", aren't I What a conundrum

You seem to be using this hypothetical situation as a ‘gotcha’ but this could never happen in the first place if surrogacy was outlawed, which I believe the people you are arguing with are in favour of.

Yes, banning something altogether so you never have to think about the definitions of words is a common TERF strategy for dealing with the complexities of the world, what of it

Sure, those pesky TERFS want to ban exploitation of women and preserve their rights & protections in law. Evil. Bigots.

You want to tell this person's sister-in-law, who was his surrogate, what she can and cannot do with her uterus? You're going to protect her from herself, in the name of sisterhood, like some kind of Opposite World Handmaid's Tale? It's not her decision, it's yours? Unbelievable.

Are you addressing me personally? I think surrogacy where vulnerable women are paid & exploited should absolutely be banned. But I’m circumstances such as this I would need to give more thought before I form an opinion either way.

Commercial surrogacy is ALREADY BANNED in the UK That's the STATUS QUO If you want to know why people think TERFs are "harassers" and "cranks" this very high ratio between passion for a subject and knowledge of that subject might be a hint as to why

THANKS FOR THE CAPITALS, I am aware commercial surrogacy is banned in the UK, but it is a booming industry in other countries. There really is no need to be condescending.

There is when you're part of a mob attacking a real person, Ben Cohen, based on your manufactured moral outrage that has nothing at all to do with the personal situation he was describing
