Anne Perry was born Juliet Hulme and is one of the defendants in the infamous Parker-Hulme murder case in New Zealand, which inspired the film Heavenly Creatures (where her character was played by Kate Winslet)

She had a very close female best friend in New Zealand, Pauline Parker Parker's mom was a homophobe who was afraid they were lesbians and wanted them separated, when it seemed like this was inevitably going to happen they lost their shit and murdered her

Yup, after they served their time they both changed their names and had their records sealed It was a BIG deal when, thanks to the movie coming out, the press dug up the fact that successful mystery novelist Anne Perry was the same person as teen murderer Juliet Hulme

She did give a brief interview addressing it, saying she regretted her actions, that she found it hard to think about those times and agreed that she might have experienced temporary psychosis due to meds they gave her as a child for tuberculosis
