If I said that living in poverty is really bad for your mental health so if you can shoplift some stuff you really want -- or, better yet, loot a bunch stuff during a riot -- people would fucking crucify me But it's all different if you have the money https://twitter.com/AnaMardoll/status/1308141599738810374?s=20 …

It really is "having the money" that makes the difference too, not "breaking the law" People are, after all, actively breaking the law in many cases by "cheating on lockdown" but no one gives a shit

We're all so mired in capitalism that we think that anything you can afford to pay for is stuff you are, fundamentally, entitled to, and not paying for it is an act of charity or generosity or otherwise supererogatory It's being *nice*, it's not something you *have to* do

(This is a terrible idea of course because if people actually did it it would only spread infection faster But this absurdly selfish idea that because "I can afford it" you deserve to be able to make other people risk their lives just to keep things feeling normal, jfc)

Hey news flash it IS possible to live without going out to eat ever, for years on end Plenty of people do so *because they can't afford it* If they can do it, you can do it -- you might not like doing it and you might think you don't deserve to live that way, but fuck you

The whole thing about arguing with libertarians and ancaps is that if the market worked as "rationally" as they want it to instead of ignoring externalities and dooming our civilization to fry, everything would be far more expensive

If cleaning ladies had the leverage to charge you what it actually *should cost* to hire a cleaning lady during the pandemic, you COULDN'T afford it You would be footing the bill to offset the risk of death or permanent disability from COVID-19 -- thousands of dollars per gig
