Okay They should start by shutting down Miss Teen USA, just like they banned underage pageants in France, and investigating the allegations of abuse by Donald Trump (including Trump himself bragging about walking into changing rooms) https://twitter.com/AJagiellon/status/1306977992598577152 …

Wait, why would Maïmouna Doucouré, who made a movie to attack something Donald Trump ran as a whole ongoing business for ten years, be the "actual pedophile" and not him

Okay it's not "whataboutism" if the actual stated purpose of the movie was to attack ongoing real-life events like underage beauty pageants and dance competitions If you just ban the movie itself and not the stuff it was satirizing you come off like an idiot

Honestly I was in fact a lot more receptive to this argument ("It wasn't possible to portray this negative thing without actually doing it") before people like you started taking it to the lengths you did

The idea that what Doucouré did on her film shoot actually is the equivalent of "killing a puppy" or "burning down a forest", that something was killed or destroyed, is pretty fucked up and is a huge part of what this movie is about

Maybe the kids who made this movie were traumatized for life, maybe not I guess we'll see when we hear about it inevitably twenty years down the line But the kneejerk response that they've been defiled/stained/ruined and are now covered in shame is... what the movie is about

they had a counselor on set and the film was approved by the French child welfare agency but they wanna ignore that bit

I mean I legitimately don't think that's a blanket defense against all criticism of doing what they did, sure, but I do feel like the bad faith runs pretty deep when singling this movie out

Maybe this kind of thing shouldn't ever be filmed at all, none of these images should exist, fine But the level of discussion and effort put into figuring out how to shoot this movie while protecting the actors is obviously way higher than the average episode of Dance Moms
