They don’t give a damn. It’s a coming of age story, but these assholes think their daughters are in Little House on the Prairie when all of them are trying to be Kardashians.

There are so many documentaries out there that touch on the same topic, without actually showing the footage of naked kids. Surviving R. Kelly did it just fine. So did the one on Shirley Temple's experiences. And the several documentaries made and aired on ID over the years.

Yeah in terms of what's purely shown onscreen this movie's content is exactly the same level of bad as Toddlers and Tiaras or Dance Moms, and people trying to make it out to be so much worse are kind of telling on themselves

Whataboutism. The kids in Dance Moms are learning a trade/skill and many go on to have real careers as dancers. These kids are supposed to have choreographed a highly synchronised dance number on their own. Which is bullshit. And about 6 on the COPINE scale.

It’s never suggested they’ve choreographed their own dance routine. They copy a music video move for move. The camera work is used to show the audience just how horrifying it looks when young girls feel compelled to emulate the suggestive material they’re constantly exposed to.

I don't believe it's very likely that a group of 11 year olds would achieve that level of coordination without supervision. It takes discipline. Its not completely impossible but its highly unlikely. The point is this is fiction not social realism...

I don't see what the movie being "unrealistic" has to do with anything one way or another, of course it's unrealistic

It's supposed to be a satire, it's an exaggeration of modern social trends, that's the whole point Satire is difficult and often fails, and you can argue Cuties did fail, but saying the movie should've been an accurate look at a children's dance crew is a ridiculous criticism

It's literally the same thing as the ending of Little Miss Sunshine The point of the ending of that movie is no one would actually literally have a preteen girl strip and pole dance onstage, and the judge is horrified and the audience is disgusted and they try to shut it down

Just as in Cuties the idea is Amy is so sheltered she doesn't know the dance moves she's stealing from music videos are considered risqué even for adults, she becomes popular among the Cuties as the edgy "bad girl", and they also horrify the judges and get shut down
