It's not wrong per se, people do tie criticism of the person to criticism of the art, like the art being bad gives extra validity to the allegations against the person, and it's weird and unsettling when they do it. She's just wrong to say JKR wasn't criticized before.

It's almost like a many fans were blind to the flaws in her works, partly because they were still consuming them through a lens of nostalgia from their childhood, and only became aware of them as more people started listening to the critiques that have been circulating for years
