An actual fucking conversation in 2020. Me: You see about the heat ray? Amy: Yeah. Me: And the sonic weapon? Amy: Yeah. Me: Those ear plugs I bought that you mocked, they protect against the sonic weapon. Amy: Yeah. Me: I got nothing for the heat ray though.

If you're at risk of being heat rayed it's important not to be wearing wire rim glasses, jewelry, or anything metallic on your skin

Or at least if you're unavoidably wearing something like glasses wear them in a way that you can very quickly take them off It's a microwave ray and metal objects react like they do in a regular microwave

Not exactly because the heat ray is a directional beam whereas a microwave oven is a resonant cavity with standing waves. Metallic mirrors _should_ work (but also heat up).

It depends on the ray. The one the U.S. has (that we admit to) and Trump wanted to deploy (which is legal but untried so far) is the ADS, which is supposed to "agitate" water molecules and fat to make your skin really hot REALLY fast without "really" burning you...

You mean it cooks you but doesn't burn you? That's reassuring. Of course microwave ovens are tuned for heating water molecules and our bodies are full of water. This stuff is not rocket science.

It's supposedly designed to have very low penetration, it heats up the very top layer of your skin, causing intense pain, but no permanent damage to anything important, is the theory Of course, theory and practice are two different things

One major problem with the theory, of course, is that, as noted above, metal is far more conductive than even very wet animal tissue and heats up a lot faster People who've been heat rayed have ended up with serious burns on their skin from wearing glasses
