More to the point, they are afraid of the public opinion that goes with attempting to grow a fetus out side the magnetosphere. Some serious birth defects without radiation protection.

Plus that's another mouth to feed with calorie requirements. I'm sure they plan for contingencies and have a cushion, but don't need to unnecessarily increase a controllable risk.

Although if it were just that, you'd expect an all-male crew would be suggested as well Maybe it's that plus a faux girl-power thing?

Or some engineering. If you can restrict the height and weight of your astronauts to build slightly smaller, slightly lighter spaceships, you can probably save a lot of fuel. And if that restriction doesn't impact the pool of female candidates nearly as much as the pool of men…
