I can think of two vaguely understandable reasons the designers did this: 1) they think it's somehow sticking it to the actual Nazis who like to play the Empire (which it is, by also sticking it to minorities) 2) they'd rather be writing for something with actual moral ambiguity

I think 2) is the most likely, like these writers would rather make a game not about the plucky Rebels fighting the evil Empire with all this defined canon stuff, but instead something that is completely not that, but this is where their job is, and they fcked up

Maybe only semi-relates but I’ve heard this floated as the reason so,e recent Trek stuff strayed so far in tone from other Trek (Discovery s1 in particular). A lot of the people involved would reslly have preferred workong on something else entirely and tried to fit their-

I got that impression, yeah, and I'm suspecting a lot more recent media's weird tonal segues have to do with it than anyone admits. I've always maintained the people who most loved TLJ's perceived jettisoning of canon were...professional writers who'd possibly have to do SW stuff

Which of course would be a lot more hospitable if SW was seen as primarily a set of props and franchise obligations you had to follow but could mostly just do your own thing in.

To be fair to the producers (not to Dawson herself) she's not an outspoken T*RF, she's just personally involved in an incident of violent transphobia (involving backing up her mom)
