The guy telling her boyfriend what "he's doing" is "so brave" and her just looking on like "wtf"

Oh, I just thought he actually had no idea who Laurel was and was too drunk to know that his attempt to cover it up by saying she was "SO cool" was really obviously inept Like any rando at a bar all like "awww hell, dude, YOU are so cool mannn"

when I was in middle school I used to fuck with people when they introduced themselves to me by acting incredulous, like there's no way they could seriously be THE Maggie Jones or Kurt Brown or whatever

Nah I am pretty sure it's a dig at her being well known and being sick of cis people being weird at her about her transition, she brings it up later when her brother mentions his friends want to meet her

I'm also pretty certain he's not a boyfriend, he's a platonic best friend, because there's dialogue indicating that he's gay (and this is the subtext of why he's so upset and unhappy she's leaving him behind in their small town)

The fact that she turned out to be trans and into girls may be some subtext for why his attachment to her is all clingy and emotionally fraught

It probably is tough for Sirius Black to end up outliving Regulus Black, as you put it

In terms of the AITA post POV on this movie, blowing him off after he said he'd already purchased a ticket and everything was pretty harsh Ironically she probably wouldn't have felt it was necessary if she were a healthy vampire who was feeding regularly

yeah see this is where I part ways with Laurel ideologically, I'd be all like "a cop a day keeps the blood frenzy away"

I get that she's more idealistic and is like "being a vampire is hierarchal, I can't be a part of a hierarchy", but I'd be more like "uh I should be dismantling fascism before I start handing out immortality"

I think it's interesting that @BootlegGirl immediately came to the conclusion that Duke is a straight up villain who is obviously already on the path of becoming the new Dracula while everyone else is saying she's just you in a movie

I mean those aren't necessarily contradictory

The movie doesn't give a lot of time or credence to Dracula's POV but his excuse that he used to be a nice guy but got bored with it after a millennium kind of does ring true with how Duke is running things
