    1. Dr. Ellie Lockhart. Republic serial villain.‏ @BootlegGirl 14 Sep 2020

it's amusingly hypocritical that the author of the Polygon review of The Last of Us Part II made a joke about how the game proved Roger Ebert was wrong about games not being art (but implying his kind of art sucks, like she thinks the game does) since Ebert loved moral panics

Like Ebert would totally have been on the "this game crushed my soul and is a crime against humanity" train if he were a contemporary games critic

He was inconsistent with his outrages. Defended the 10 minute r@pe scene in Irreversible as art yet accused David Lynch is mistreating Isabella Rossellini by have her perform the nude street scene despite her always saying see felt fine with it in interviews

He was good at refusing to back down from stuff that was clearly indefensible, like I give him credit for leading the charge to essentially force Andrew Dice Clay out of public life But on stuff that had any ambiguity he was often inconsistent

Which is what I guess you want from an interesting critic, someone who honors and defends their gut reaction

He legitimately did have much more insight into racial issues than his other white male peers because he was married to a Black woman and yet he was still a white man and spoke on that stuff with more authority than he really should've

I mean don’t think it was just because of his marriage to Chaz. He had that track record before he met her (he called Dirty Harry fascist when it came out)
