You were paying attention to the part where he needed to literally have 20 drinks a day just to be able to get out of bed and stand up right

He wasn’t standing up, but I guess the principal is that if you self medicate with alcohol it’s ok to be a jerk?

I think it's a very minor example of jerkish behavior from someone who suffered a lot in life and don't see the point in trying to define him by it as you have

I guess it was also kind of painful to be around kids because of his limited access to his child

Here the thing you probably didn't grasp when you were a kid but you should today. You aren't entitled an explanation for a rejection. You aren't entitled a veto when a probable reason is given to you.

It wasn’t me. I saw this as an adult. It’s not a matter of entitlement. It’s about being kind to children.

Look, it's a shitty thing to do, I'm not arguing with that It's also, honestly, in my view a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, and something that very much does illustrate the whole burden of fame thing

Adults are rude to kids unnecessarily all the time, I ignored a kid saying hi to me just the other day because I was in a shitty mood, it's only when you're famous that people record that interaction in their memory and save it to bust it out years later

So maybe don’t be rude to kids unnecessarily?

Okay, I can try not to, but eventually I will, because I'm not naturally comfortable around kids and I have very limited reserves of patience or emotional energy

If you were a celebrity and didn’t give autographs I would assume you would have a canned response “sorry, I don’t do that but have a great day nice to meet you” or something. Not hard, not emotionally draining.

I would not, my strategy would be the same one it is right now, which is to stare at my phone and pretend I didn't hear you It's a very common strategy precisely because acknowledging the other person IS emotionally draining and opens the door for other people to engage
