I... don't think glam rock was really trying to pretend to not be gay

Yeah that is not only a galaxy brain take but downright insulting and disrespectful to a lot of people.

Plus, its hard to pinpoint exact dates of genre origins (industrial being the exception) but glam rock was a fairly big mainstream thing a few years before disco got popular, so this is also backwards on the history. Glam was arguably mostly over by the time disco got big.

I would appear to in fact have my rock subgenre terminologies crossed, in which case I apologize for the disrespect however unintended

This would make more sense. If its like, hair metal that one is especially weird in the macho attitude vs. some of the visual aesthetics.

I don't think it really makes sense to say that any genre of rock is "disco without the backbeat", disco without the backbeat is R&B

What actually happened to disco of course is that they added MORE of a backbeat and got EDM/house But while modern dance music is supposed to be less cheesy because of the much louder faster rhythm section I really don't think it's less gay

I still think it was a major power move for Daft Punk to chill out a little bit and produce an extremely retro disco track in defiance of their fanbase and then win a Grammy for it

I like to imagine the backstory of "Get Lucky" is their robot characters transforming back into humans with working genitals
