There's a kind of melodramatic tragedy to it, yeah It's a bittersweet thing, his revenge quest has made Inigo something he never could have been otherwise (the second-greatest swordsman in the world) but it's narrowed his life to *just* being that, and not really by choice

I always thought Inigo's story was a take on what David Foster Wallace was talking about when writing his essay about pro tennis players That to be really, really great at something you have to be born with talent but you also have to sacrifice your life to it

There's no such thing as an Olympic athlete, much less an Olympic gold medalist, who didn't give up their whole childhood to just being about an Olympic athlete, and it's impossible to really answer the question "Was it worth it?", there's no basis for comparison

It's a cautionary tale about letting revenge consume you

Yeah, except it does work out pretty well for him. He doesn't lose anything. He gets his catharsis and makes some amazing friends along the way.

I feel he's trying to say 'Hatred leaves you with nothing' but like...yea, Rugen needed killing and his quest for revenge was kinda super just? But at the same time, yea - afterwards, he was empty, and if you live for hate it will consume you and live you empty
-
He was directionless - for a bit - and then Wesley is like "how about piracy?" And he's like "sure, that works"

It's tragic because he 100% succumbed to his injuries five minutes after they rode off into the sunset.

The story had resurrection magic that was proven to work. Not sure it's that tragic.

Like Larry Walters. He didn’t really have a plan beyond riding a lawnchair into the skyhttps://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Walters …
