One time the improv troupe at my college ran around the dorms going "FREE KRISPY KREME" and just had these huge bags of donuts they were giving out and everyone was so excited It was great Only later did we realize these were trash bags of donuts from the dumpsterhttps://twitter.com/baileymeyers/status/1304451363149996033 …

there was a really popular donut store in my college town, and every morning they would sell a bucket full of day-olds for one united states dollar, and one time i was lucky enough to get the donut bucket, and if im being honest nothing has ever measured up since pic.twitter.com/v196ck7oXC

I mean they were donuts that had just been thrown out before closing that night and there was most likely nothing wrong with them but still We were technically all eating garbage

You mean to say, you were eating the ruins of a raccoon's hopes and dreams

You know what's actually hilarious is that the old environmentalism episodes of Sesame Street from the 90s had Oscar the Grouch be this voice of resistance to appropriation

It's surprisingly deep and appropriate to many situations in hindsight He gets *really mad* about organized recycling efforts because Grouches live in the dump off of everyone else's refuse and now they're taking it away

"Grouches have always lived in trash! We've always loved trash! Everything you didn't want belonged to us! And we were happy that way! Now you come up with a new name for it, recycling, and suddenly it's okay for everyone else to make use of trash"

At my school I actually witnessed a debate over whether it was more ethical to throw aluminum cans into the marked receptacles or into the regular trash "You know there's a homeless guy who goes through the dumpster for them every trash day"

Arguments like this are why I have largely retired from my naive marriage-era viewpoint that criticisms of the military must be balanced against the certainty that trans people need to hide in it

So leave the recycling outside. It’s probably safer for hypothetical homeless person to go through that than a dumpster anyways.

The school, itself, did not want to encourage anyone to go through the trash for any reason
