idk I think they're more like Prometheus? their existence is contradicted by other movies but they themselves represent a tangent canon, see also the Sarah Connor Chronicles, it can't co-exist with 3 & 4 or with Dark Fate or Genisys

This is why I feel that Timeline was the only semi-sensible time travel story, and even then...

As I recall there were numerous Star Trek episodes about this, also in Justice League TAS we SEE this happen where Superman gets sent back from the future and then that future fades out of existence

Once again, the DCAU does it best.

Anyway the best setting I've seen that takes "meta-time" seriously is the fangame Ex Tempore, and the way it actually works (Ex Tempore is the only place you can go to be "outside of time") is headache-inducing for typical time travel stories http://www.aleph.se/Nada/Game/Fukuyama/index.html …

Do you view this idea as the same as "multiple timelines, but the original timeline is destroyed immediately after the time traveler inserts themselves into the newly created timeline"?

Farscape basically used that model, but the other timelines are in a state of partial existence rather than completely gone. Unrealised Realities. It renders wormhole travellers (and thus potential time travellers) as functionally God, able to alter and destroy reality
