White Wolf even tried to do a different vampire game themselves only for their fans to protest and for them to eventually go back to the original onehttps://twitter.com/FreyjaErlings/status/1303733476303175686 …

Hunter was the only game I thought was improved a lot, but it was missing HunterNET, the one great thing about The Reckoning. The core/mortal book and the Slasher book were *excellent*.

Reckoning and Vigil were really two completely different genres (Vigil was a sequel to/remake of Hunters Hunted not Reckoning) and as much as everyone shat on Reckoning I think both have their place

The idea of Slashers as a kind of failed Hunter was brilliant though and I would totally carry it over to Reckoning

Isn’t that basically what Waywards are in Reckoning?

Well, not exactly, Waywards are unhinged but they're still hyperfocused on killing monsters and not random humans who offend them for some reason

What Slashers seem most similar to in HtR is the Demonic Extremists, i.e. Hunters who've been fully "consumed by the Hunt" (and are no longer normal humans in any sense) but have been corrupted in the process

In HtR this requires contact with an actual Demon from Demon: the Fallen, but you can imagine the concept playing out differently

(In Hunter you can only reach full power by becoming an Extremist and losing your humanity The other two Extremist paths -- Angelic and Independent, giving yourself to the Messengers or to an abstraction of your Hunter Code -- are "good guy" paths but don't have to be)
