Yeah they're basically just revenants that don't have to deal with blood bond

Yeah see some vampires are terrified of dhampir as a portent of Gehenna and a reason to exterminate thinbloods Others say "What's the big deal, it's just a ghoul with no blood bond" The members of the latter group have bought into vampires' own hype to a deadly degree

They don't realize that if there were no blood bond, the argument over who's more powerful, a vampire or a ghoul, suddenly gets very, very dicey You're talking about someone with dots in Potence and Auspex who can Blood Heal etc and can *go around during the day*

(WWDITS is a great piss take on Vampire the Masquerade, every episode is like a VtM session gone horribly wrong, and Guillermo's arc is an amazing concept for a "ghoul as player character campaign")

now that you mention it, Chicago By Night had that 3000-year-old ghoul Prias who was like superboss-level powerful by the standards of any first edition vamps who'd be running a game in the setting, and could probably have singlehandedly murdered all the power players in town

There's that line from Dirk Gently and the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul, where Thor confronts Toe Rag the goblin saying he has some kind of "evil hold" over his father Odin And Toe Rag laughs, "How could a lowly one such as me have any hold over the Allfather?"

"I am but a servant, a slave I take his orders, I run his errands I handle all the petty daily business he'd rather not, so he can spend his time doing as he likes I work every minute of every day to make his life as easy as possible"

And the narration says that Thor isn't wise enough in the ways of the world that he doesn't quite realize this is an incredibly powerful hold to have over anyone, possibly the most powerful

It's a whole theme in VtM that as vampires get older and crustier and weirder as times change too much for them to have any chance of staying in touch, they have to invest more and more trust in their ghouls to do whatever it is they do all day while the sun is up

Even with completely bonded and loyal ghouls, it's a much more vulnerable situation for the vampire than they're usually willing to admit

(The little hint at this at the end of the pilot of WWDITS when Guillermo's hand twitches on the curtain and lets a beam of sunlight in is so great and it pays off so well)
