It's still one of the most negative depictions of the CIA I've seen in a big popcorn movie Ross himself may be more or less presented as a decent guy but he goes ahead and tells us Killmonger is also a CIA agent and everything he does in Wakanda is exactly what he's trained tohttps://twitter.com/AlexandraErin/status/1302603237690945537 …

Except that revelation about killmongers tactics goes uncriticissd and uncommented. And is never linked to any larger criticism of imperialism. If it's a negative depiction, it's a completely toothless one

Oh come on, there was no reason to bring it up at all except to make the CIA look bad It's the most disturbing moment in the film, it's the moment you realize Killmonger is a total nihilist who doesn't care about Wakanda any more than any other country

There is no way to interpret Ross saying "That's what he was trained to do" as anything other than a very dark look at what "regime change" entails

You mean like a CIA officer interferring in a country's electoral process to ensure a sympathetic leader stays in power? That kind of regime change?

...Agent Ross did nothing to help T'Challa win the continuation of their duel His contribution to the war effort was entirely incidental to that (shooting down the planes to make sure no vibranium leaves the country)

Ah, so he merely kills wakandans. He doesn't help at all.

I mean you know the point of that scene is he's piloting his own fighter remotely because that's standard in their world
